510650, China) Abstract: Natural ecosystems play an essential role in the
regulation and maintenance of ecological process and life support
systems on earth. There has been an almost exponential growth in
publications on the benefits of ecosystem to our society. In this
paper, ecological complexity and ecosystem services are reviewed.
Functions, goods and services are attributive to natural ecosystems
and their associated ecological structures and processes. Recently,
many valuation methods have been put forward to study the ecosystem
service. These methods and valuation resultes are discussed in here.
Using different methods and preference, the studies can produce
different data. The methods will provide help for our nation’s
valuation to ecosystem services after they are put into practice.
Many people think the function and service are the same meaning, but
they, in fact, have different contents. Key word:
