Many of you have expressed encouragement and high hopes for the new Sino-Eco leadership. Once again, I thank you for your support. In particular, I'd like to acknowledge our team members' enthusiasms to serve. Some of them are veteran Sino-Eco members and some are new comers, but we all have one common goal -- that is to make our organization better. I was grateful for that and see this is a great start.

Our team will work on a few fronts in the coming months including the annual ESA gathering and celebration of 20th anniversary of Sino-Eco, membership campaigns, and others. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any comments and suggestion.

This is the last of the seven issues of newsletters published under Dr. Ben Gu's initiative from 2006-2008. You will find out what Dr. Ben has to say in his farewell speech and 2006-2008 accomplishments in review. Meanwhile, Dr. Ge Sun is introducing his team and ready to lead from Day One starting May 1, 2008.

Dr. Ge Sun is elected!

Voting of the Sino-Eco president (2008-2010) concluded on March 31, 2008. The election committee sincerely thank you for your supports and votes. We especially thank Dr. Ge Sun and Dr. Jianwu Tang for their willingness to serve as candidates and readiness to lead Sino-Eco when elected.

Among the 59 qualified members, 44 members or 75% casted their votes with 43 valid votes (one vote was casted after March 31). Below is the final vote count:

Dr. Ge Sun: 25 votes
Dr. Jiangwu Tang：18 votes

We are pleased to annouce that Dr. Ge Sun is now elected as the Sino-Eco president for the 2008-2010 term. He will form an executive committee and take over the job beginning on May 1, 2008.

Dr. Chung-Hsin Chung passed away at age 100

Dr Chung-Hsin Chung, a distinguished ecologist in Nanjing University, passed away on March 2, 2008 at age 100. Sino-Eco President Ben Gu has sent a letter of condolence on behalf of the Sino Eco Community.

2007 in Review and Happy New Year 2008

Time flies. We are approaching the end of another fruitful year of our ecological life. In 2007, Sino-Eco as an organization has fulfilled many important tasks. Read them in details in our newsletter. These accomplishments would not be possible without the dedications of the current committee and other Sino-Eco members. We hope more students and young ecologists will actively participate Sino-Eco activities and build our association into an even more effective and influential force in helping ecological education, research, and management worldwide.

Holidays are already here. I wish all of our new and old friends a safe and enjoyable break and a wonderful new year.

A few weeks ago, I was listening the radio in my car. It talked about the impact of divorces on the environment. I thought it was fascinating yet making good sense. However, I did not realize that the research was conducted by one of our members until Ben and Changhui mentioned it to me. Find out who did such a great job in the Hot Link section.

If you like Lixin's eco essay about Africa from last issue, you definitely want to read his adventure to the Death Valley. It's a shame that I have not made it there as it is very close to me. Now I have to put it on the list when I plan my next trip.
