I was saddened by the news that Dr. Chung-Hsin Chung passed away on March 2nd , 2008, at age 100.
With his influence, the Biology Department of Nanjing University recruited the first class of 20 students in the Ecology major in 1985, which puts the University among the first in the nation to offer BS degree in Ecology. I remember Dr. Chung was very happy to see us and welcomed us with a speech. He told us that the country was in great need of young ecologists and encouraged us to work hard. Although I did not have the fortune to take classes from him as he was already retired at the time, I have been always inspired by him and will always remember him as a great pioneer ecologist in China.
